My Coffee ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using My Coffee, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you create an account and use My Coffee, we collect:
- Account Information: Your email address and password (stored securely using industry-standard encryption)
- Profile Information: Display name, username, first name, account creation date, optional ZIP code, and any preferences you set
- Review Data: Coffee reviews you create, including coffee name, coffee shop name, drink type, rating, notes, and date
- Social Data: Friend relationships, followers, and following connections you create
- Engagement Activity: Announcement likes and views
- Shop Ownership Data: If you claim a business, shop details, announcements, and menu items you provide
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use our Service, we may automatically collect:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
- Usage Data: How you interact with the app (features used, screens viewed)
- Location Data: Precise location is collected only when you request nearby results and is never stored on our servers
- Crash Reports: Crash reports and performance diagnostics are sent to Sentry, a third-party service, and include your user ID and device information (OS version, device model)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the My Coffee Service
- Create and manage your account
- Store and display your coffee reviews
- Generate your personal statistics and insights
- Enable coffee shop search functionality
- Respond to your comments, questions, and support requests
- Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues
- Power social features including friends, followers, and your public profile
- Enable shop owner tools including shop management, announcements, and menus
- Process and manage subscription purchases through Stripe
2a. Public Profiles and Social Features
MyCoffee includes optional social features. If you choose to make your profile public, your display name, username, and coffee reviews are visible to other users. You can control your profile visibility in Settings. Friend and follower relationships are visible to your connected users. You can make your profile private or delete your account at any time.
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
3.1 We Will Never Sell Your Data
We will never sell your personal information or coffee shop data to third parties. Your privacy is fundamental to our service.
3.2 Review Data Sharing
To provide aggregate insights about coffee and coffee shops, we may share anonymized and aggregated review data, such as:
- Average ratings for specific drinks or coffee shops
- Popular drink types and trends
- General statistics about coffee consumption patterns
This aggregated data cannot be used to identify you personally.
3.3 Service Providers
We share your information with the following named third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf:
- Sentry — receives crash and performance data including your user ID and device info, used solely for bug fixing and stability
- Stripe — processes subscription payments. Payment card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by MyCoffee. We store only your subscription status and tier.
These service providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the purposes we specify.
3.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).
4. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- Regular security audits and updates
- Access controls and authentication requirements
- Secure cloud infrastructure
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at support@ratemycoffee.app.
When you delete your account, your personal information and profile are permanently deleted. Your reviews are anonymized (author information removed) rather than deleted, so community coffee data is preserved without being linked to you.
Account deletion can be done directly in the app under Settings → Privacy & Data, without needing to contact support.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information
- Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw consent for location tracking at any time through your device settings

7. Children's Privacy
My Coffee is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@ratemycoffee.app.
8. Third-Party Services
MyCoffee uses the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy:
- Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
- Sentry — crash reporting and performance monitoring
- Stripe — subscription payment processing
- Expo / React Native — app framework
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your personal information remains protected.
